Cros-Lex falls in volleyball semis

Photo by Julia Cramer CROSWELL — It was an overall, solid effort for the Cros-Lex volleyball team at their home tournament on Saturday.

After going 2-0-1 in pool play, the Lady Pioneers knocked off Almont (25-13, 25-11) in the quarterfinals before falling to Port Huron Northern (19-25, 11-25) in the semis.

In pool play, C-L defeated Bad Axe (25-13, 25-13), L’Anse Creuse (25-17, 25-14) and split with Harbor Beach (25-20, 21-25).

Senior Devyn Gordon did plenty of everything on the court for the Pioneers, finishing with 43 kills, 37 serve receptions, 19 digs and six blocks.

Others contributing well were: Gabbie Childers (22 kills, 5 bl.); Sydney Soper (38 assts., 20 dogs, 4 aces); Morgan Moore (34 assts., 4 aces, 11 digs); Mollie Ripenbark (38 sr., rec.), 16 digs, 11 aces); and, Kari Baker (23 sr. rec., 25 digs).

The Lady Green Devils had their share of ups and downs during their play at the Pioneer invitational.

They were 0-2-1 in pool play, losing to Lutheran North (14-25, 17-25) and St. Clair (16-25, 9-25) and splitting with Marlette (17-25, 25-21). The Devils followed in playoffs by defeating L’Anse Creuse (21- 25, 25-15, 25-13) and falling to St. Clair (22-25, 25-16, 8-15).

Topping the individual performances for the Raiders were: Kendal Muxlow (41 kills, 5 aces); Grace Schlaud (39 kills, 4 aces); and, Alexis Wiltsie (82 assts., 9 aces).
