Trooper pleads to drunk driving

Cody Gueldenzoph Cody Gueldenzoph The Michigan State Trooper arrested in a drunk driving accident Thanksgiving Day has been sentenced in Sanilac County District Court.

Cody Gueldenzoph, 26, pled no contest on Feb. 20 to operated-impaired, a misdemeanor.

Gueldenzoph, formerly of Sandusky, was placed on six months probation and ordered to pay court fines and costs, and other costs, totaling $1,173 in full the day of sentencing. He must also successfully complete an outpatient substance abuse program at the office of the behavioral services for the Michigan State Police in Lansing and provide proof of completion by April 20.

Gueldenzoph must have no alcohol, controlled substance or substance that mimics a controlled substance while on probation, but is allowed incidental contact as it relates to his employment.

Gueldenzoph, who graduated trooper recruit school in December 2016 and was assigned to the state police post in Flint was arrested following a one vehicle accident in a field, a quarter mile west of Germania Road in Greenleaf Township.

According to the Sanilac County Sheriff Department, a hunter called Sanilac Central Dispatch Thursday, Nov. 23 around 7:55 a.m. to report the accident.

Deputies who responded to the scene reported the off-duty officer drove a 2010 Cadillac a half-mile across a field and struck a tree.

Gueldenzoph, who resides in Saginaw, was transported by ambulance to Hills and Dales Hospital in Cass City for treatment of injuries.
