Chief Dave Hall Chief Dave Hall CROSWELL — A student’s alleged threats against teachers and other students led to a police investigation last week.

Croswell Chief of Police Dave Hall said the 15-year-old high school student allegedly threatened to shoot two teachers and several students in general.

The incident occurred Tues., Feb. 27 during school hours.

A student who apparently overheard the alleged threat reported it to school officials and the school resource officer – a Croswell police officer assigned to the school, said Hall.

Hall said the 15-yearold boy who allegedly made the verbal threats was removed from school.

The chief said no weapons were available to the boy, and police found no guns during a search of the boy’s home.

The boy’s parents were “extremely cooperative” with authorities, Hall noted.

The chief described the boy as a “special needs student” who was “trying to get attention.”

The police report has been submitted to the county prosecutor’s officer for possible charges, Hall said.

In a letter to families of Cros-Lex Schools on Feb. 28, the day after the incident, Superintendent Daniel Gilbertson stated, “The verbal threat was reported to administration, and with the assistance of local law enforcement who thoroughly investigated the verbal threat, we confirmed there was no risk to student safety.

“As a nation, we all struggle to understand the realities of the recent tragedy at Marjory Stoneman High School, this event strengthens our resolve even more to ensure the Croswell- Lexington Community Schools provides a safe and welcoming environment for our students, employees, and community.

“Last Thursday (Feb. 22) our District’s Safety Committee, comprised of leaders in local law enforcement, first responders, and school personnel/officials, and input from parents, have led to us identifying and implementing additional safeguards for all of our schools.”
