Paul Scaramuzzino Cros-Lex Paul Scaramuzzino Cros-Lex CAPAC – With 10 different wrestlers placing, including three champions, the Cros-Lex wrestling team turned in a strong, second-place finish at the BWAC team tournament at Capac on Saturday.

Richmond claimed the team title with 266.5 points while the runner-up Pioneers totaled 190.5.

“We wrestled really well,” commented Joe Lilly, C-L coach. “We placed second, which in turn, put us tied for second overall in the league (including league duals). We had three league champs in Xzavier Suess, Chris Lilly, and Paul Scaramuzzino.”

Scaramuzzino, a junior who won the league title at 145 last winter, improved his record to 37-1 with his two wins on the day. After a pair of byes in the first two rounds, he won a technical fall (16-1, 2:35) over Jacob Bottle of Algonac in the semis and pinned Algonac’s Noah Babin at the :57-second mark in the championship match.

Sophomore Christopher Lilly (40- 4) was champ at 130 pounds, going 3-0 on the day. He scored a pair of pins in the quarterfinals and semifinals before winning a, 8-3, decision in the title match against Richmond’s Hunter Seguin.

Xzavier Suess (32-4), just a freshman, was C-L’s third champion. Wrestling at 119, he won his only two matches – pinning Hunter Heckler of Armada in 2:31 of the semis and then scoring a, 10-4, decision in the championship match against his own teammate, Jack Scheland (18-22). Scheland needed just one win to reach the title match.

Other second-place finishers at the BWAC meet from C-L were: Vincent Scaramuzzino (145, 30-3), Zavier Herman (171, 30-7), and Blake Falter (215, 26-13).
